Overview
Our firm has been retained by a Federally Qualified Health Center, to recruit for the position of Director of Behavior Health. In this role, you’ll provide leadership in the provision of high-quality behavioral health services to the patients and families of the organization. You will supervise and oversee the behavioral health clinical team and behavioral health staff, daily operations, and quality indicators and outcomes for the behavioral health department. You’ll spend 50-60% of your time performing clinical work and the remaining time conducting administrative duties.

- Develop various educational pipelines including cultivating partnerships with local universities to create an MSW internship program. In the past, ParkTree has partnered with USC’s MSW program, and this relationship could be “reactivated” as a starting point
- Initially, you’ll spend approx. 50-60% of your time on clinical activities and the remaining time on administrative work. However, as the behavioral health program expands, the position will shift towards a predominantly administrative role
- Provide support for the organization’s two LCSWs and one behavioral health Case Manager with an eye towards developing/revising policies and procedures that are scalable for the growth of the program

The Position
The Role You'll Play
The Director of Behavior Health is a licensed mental health provider and provides leadership on the provision of high-quality behavioral health services to the patients and families of the health center. He/she will supervise and oversee the behavioral health clinical team and behavioral health staff. He/she will oversee daily operations, quality indicators and outcomes for the behavioral health department. He/she will lead by example and spend 50-60% of time performing clinical work and the remaining time conducting administrative duties.
Performs duties as the Director of Behavioral Health including:
- Oversees the programmatic and administrative functions of the Behavioral Health Department
- Ensures the services of the Behavioral Health Department are optimized for the needs of ParkTree’s patient population
- Establishes/maintains the Behavioral Health Department’s practice standards and workflows for the provision of outpatient integrated behavioral health services for patients of all ages
- Provides leadership and oversight for the Behavioral Health Department, including direct supervision of the behavioral health clinicians and other department staff. Conducts annual performance appraisals for behavioral health staff
- Maintains compliance with all relevant federal, state and local regulations and standards related to behavioral health services. Monitors and enforces staff compliance in regards to confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information
- In collaboration with the Finance Department, develops, monitors, and manages the behavioral health department budget, ensuring financial sustainability and resource allocation
- Supports the recruitment, hiring, and retention of qualified behavioral health staff, ensuring the department is staffed with skilled professionals
- Assists in the Credentialing and Privileging process for the behavioral health licensed staff
- Ensures the adequacy, properness, and timeliness documentation of behavioral health clinical records, and billing of the behavioral health staff
- Leads the Peer Review process for behavioral health clinicians, addresses identified areas of concern and ensures all findings are reviewed with the staff
- With collaboration with the Director of Quality Improvement, establishes, maintains and monitors the behavioral health quality improvement activities and ensures appropriate goals are set for all indicators
- Reviews and utilizes behavioral health clinical data to drive quality improvement activities and need for ongoing staff education
- Ensures appropriate follow up with referrals and screenings
- Designs and conducts outreach efforts to recruit patients into care, including designing flyers/pamphlets and educational materials
- Oversees student training program. May provide on-site Supervision to MSW, MFT and/or BSW interns
- Attends clinical roundtable meetings of primary care associations and fosters collaborations with external providers and organizations to enhance care for patients
- On-boards and mentors new clinicians. Provides professional development and educational opportunities for department staff
- Completes special projects and other duties as assigned
- Completes all mandatory trainings and drills
Performs duties as an LCSW or LMFT including:
- Provides initial behavioral health evaluations
- Develops counseling protocols for working with individuals, couples, families and groups with various psychosocial needs/concerns
- Provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, referrals to specialists
- Maintains patient/family confidentiality as it pertains to Protected Health Information (PHI)
- Participates in the Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program including assessing for risks during pregnancy, review and approval of protocols
- Provides case management for patients with complex medical needs and/or chronic disease
- Interfaces with other care team members, and maintains open communication with Providers
- Provide on-site Supervision to MSW, MFT and/or BSW interns
- Promotes the principles of a Patient Centered Medical Home
- Participates in quality improvement activities
Experience
Background Profile
- Current unrestricted licensure as Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences
- 3+ years’ experience in ambulatory care setting as an LCSW or LMFT. Experience in a FQHC setting is strongly preferred
- 2 years supervisory/management experience, preferred
- Registered to provide Clinical Supervision. 3+ years’ of clinical supervisory experience, preferred
- Current BLS or CPR certificate
- Excellent customer service, leadership and motivational skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills and strict attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize projects and tasks to meet necessary deadlines
- Ability to analyze and use data for problem solving, multitask and prioritize projects, work independently and/or in a team collaborative setting
- Provides direct patient care in a culturally competent manner
- Familiarity with NextGen and/or other electronic medical record
- Treats all colleagues and patients with dignity and respect
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred but not required
- Flexibility with schedule
- The Director of Behavioral Health serves in both an administrative (40-50%) and clinical role (60-50%)
- Must possess unrestricted driver’s license and auto insurance
